Selective coloring. I couldn't resist the urge.

Very pretty shot, John I like the pose of the woman and the curtain that matches her dress. There are two things though that I noticed, the shot itself is sort of fuzzy, (I do not know the word to use here...) and another thing, is there another thin curtain behind her? Or is that a reflection of another curtain in the glass? Just curious...

(I just saw you uploaded another shot here when I uploaded my response... so I went in again...I think I have solved the problem of the curtain part...)

    Hi Izzie,

Thanks for the comments and critique. I agree the first is a bit soft in focus. That is a mesh screen behind her.

I loved #2, would a version with both women in color and the rest in B&W look good too ?

    Binnur,

Thanks for the comments. I'll try it later and post.

The second is a really interesting composition to me John. I had to look twice as like Izzie my first though was the background dancer was a reflection.

I wonder if you could try to get the background dress the same color as the foreground one by pushing around the sliders a bit to enhance that reflection illusion? So, selective colorization

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for the comments. It can be done, this sort of illustrates how colors can become more vivid just by the quality or quantity of light, the foreground dancer is in sunlight and the other dancer in shade.

    Shane,

Is this closer to what you had in mind. Original on the right.

I don't know if this is the correct way of saying what I think but I think if would be cool if the dresses were the same shade and or tone. I realize that the dress of back dancer would be darker because of the light and would expect that. Were they the same color in 'real life'? If so, then once again I am amazed by the impact of light on color

I like the dress of the dancer behind in the darker tone, emphasising depth and chiaroscuro. It also adds a sense of mystery to the composition.. 'Goddess' indeed.

    Shane,

I looked at the RGB #s for both dresses (using Elements) and this is what was measured:

    Foreground 215, 61, 155
    Background 113, 13, 47

I can modify them to match each other but as both are in different shades of light, the conversion won't match perfectly.

The color change is beyond my editing skills in terms of picking the right tone/shade John. Sorry!

    Shane,

    I'm still experimenting with it.
