Hi, Nina Marie. What a lovely, peaceful scene. I can see why it drew your attention to capture an image. I really like you composition with color above and below and the rocks in the foreground. Perhaps framed just slightly higher to eliminate the few rocks at lower center which don't really add to the image and could pose an eye drawing distraction to some viewers. You had a difficult challenge in that the fisherman's rod blends with the sailboat rigging in the BG. Perhaps timing the shutter to catch the rod in a horizontal position would have helped (as if I would have noticed such a thing at time of capture ). Repositioning slightly or waiting for him to move clear of the rigging would have helped too.
Regarding technical aspects. the image doesn't look natural IMO. The shadows are over compensated. That also resulted in the darker portions of the image being poorly saturated and noisy.
On edit: Kodiak beat me to it while I was typing. His version improved the technical issues that I mentioned.
While compositionally pleasing with nice colors you picked a difficult scene from a technical standpoint. Nice effort.
Nice effort, if the man in red is a central part of your theme then emphasizes or enhancing the red shirt would help, however I suspect that because he is positioned far from the brilliance of the sky and also so small that he is just a small element in your imagery. There does seem to be an abundance of red shades throughout your image, the reds were very subdued in your version, Kodiak's version has brought them to the forefront; not so much that they compete with the sunset.
This a very nice effort Nina Marie. I do agree with Kodiak on the post processing. You've got a good eye so just keep shooting.
Hi Nina, I like the composition and I like Kodiak's edit
Thanks to all of you for comments and suggestions, especially to Kodiak and Shawn for the re_works. I Do like Shawn's edit best!
