Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art My Review

I like this lens on my Nikon 7100 (DX of course). I wanted just this field of view (75mm). The lens is quiet, responsive and probably as sharp or a tad sharper than my Nikon 105mm Macro. I stuck a HOYA HMC UV filter on it which is also very nice.

This is my target for all new lenses and the Sigma has not disappointed. I believe this lens is a good match for high density sensors. I will keep it. I won't snuggle with it while snoozing but there is no buyer's remorse.

Did you buy this lens online or in a store? If in a store I would try to compare it to a 50mm nikkor or any other brand rather than a 105mm.

Purchased from B&H. Yes, I had a 50mm Nikon that I believed was too soft for my liking. My 50mm canon lens is perfect stopped down.

    Hi Ed,

It would be useful to know the camera settings used - the EXIF has been stripped, so I cannot tell, for example, what aperture they were shot at.

However, the first two certainly look OK.

    Glad you're pleased with it.

The pipe was taken at f/4.5, ISO 200, 1600/s. Buildings at f/1.8, ISO 100, 250/s with a +1 EV Exposure compensation. I like to shoot a little faster using the D7100. Lots of photosite density you know.
