Corporate Car - Stacking 34 Frames

The helmets we shot this week had an interesting conclusion:

    — "…and this client of mine will be receiving his new Bentley some time
next week… yes… and when I showed him your pictures of our helmets,
he immediately said that this is the kind of light he would like for his new
car… here is his telephone number ###. Call him and see that with him."

Cool! …so I called the gentleman and he invited us, Olivier and I, to a
dinner at his residence to talk about the details. That was some dinner!

So, quickly, I had to improvise a shoot to teach my son how to shoot
a car and most importantly the complex pp that's hidden behind it.

Since I don't own such a vehicle, we shot our more modest business car:

Corporate Car - Stacking 34 Frames

Instead of our usual ©, I created some letterings that do not exist really
since I prefer to not indicate what kind of stuff may be found in there. Even
the back windows are black for more discretion.

C&C welcomed. All takes are SOOC, the stacking is not… of course.

Nicely done, did you change aperture for any focus points of the car (e.g. the side closest to the shrubbery)?

    Hi John,

Nope, camera on M, same SS and ƒ, ISO constant as well as WB and, finally,
camera is absolutely fixed and remotely controlled just as the strobe.

The only thing that changed is Olivier's position (holding a studio strobe head)
around the car. Sometimes closer depending on used modifier. A RF 1x4' strip
box and a Magnum reflector were the only modifiers used.

    Kodiak,

    Thanks for the additional information.

I will for ever be sorry to disappoint you, Mike…

When I sell a picture to a client, it becomes (with the original RAW, the final
rendition… and all the working files in between) his property. The client is
now the sole and rightful owner of that photograph that he commissioned
me to perform as soon as it is paid. Of course, any further commissioned
work on these files in the future will invoiced by the hour.

Very often, clients will prefer to leave it all in my archived image bank as
they see it safer. That means, even though I'm is possession of the files,
they are still their property and, legally, I may not dispose of them.

The only pictures I may post here are tests, exercises, personal projects,
or techniques and ideas explorations. NEVER A SOLD PHOTOGRAPH! …like
    this Bentley will be.

    Hello Kodiak

Interesting concept. Could you post one of the original frame to see the difference between 1 and 34 ?

I like the way you spend your time with your work and your boys. It is a very admirable quality. Olivier is so lucky to have you as his dad and mentor. Is he a fast learner?

I can not and will not comment on your shot here. No reason, just nothing to nit about.

Hey Pierre, sure thing! …here are some of it:

The strobe head was powered by a generator that is hidden behind the car!

There is no easy answer to this question… but let me put it this way:
their mother used to say: "You are such an idiot… because you gave
all your brains to the boys!"

Truth is the boys understand perfectly difficult principles like
"reciprocity factor" as if it was natural and cognitive knowledge. And
the kids understand very quickly what they do not know and that in
any field of interest but to use and apply these notions is a big thing
they don't master yet (that's ok since experience must be acquired).

They will be very eager to shoot something commissioned by a client.
So I let them do all they want telling them that I will nevertheless do
my work and then we will all vote for the better shot.

They are, because of this understanding, the best assistant one may
dream of. A very selfish reason why I love to be and work with them
is that they are joking a lot and have sometimes very crazy ideas which,
surprisingly, may be used "as is" in the work!

    Thanks David,

The secret here is to "design" the lines of the car as to spice them up. It is so
easy to fall into unrealistic rendition by succumbing to "more is better"!

Never thought of stacking a car. haha
Very nicely done at that. I am sure the Bentley will get the same kind of loving care.

With all the cleverness I like to believe I have, I just realize that I completely
forgot to ask the colour of the new Continental GT! …'t was a too great dinner!
