A few from my "point & shoot" camera

Since my main camera has a stuck lens, and I will be getting a new Pentax outfit in a few months; I drug out my very simple Panasonic FZ40 and took a few pictures around the yard. Straight out of the camera, with cropping the only thing done. No filters.

Carol - I think you messed up that second shot; there's an ant in it...

(Just joking...). Point and shots and camera phones do produce decent images, as you have clearly demonstrated. I have a selection of four pictures; one done with a point and shoot, one with a cross-over camera, one with a "consumer" DSLR and one with a "pro" body and lens and will ask people if they can figure out which camera took which image.

    People can't tell.

That being said; try taking a more complex shot and you'll be pulling your hair out when using a P&S.

I have nikon mainly because you build up kit over the years and are tied in, you are getting Pentax.

I KNOW they are much better sealed and protected for weather than Nikcan, which one are you getting and why.

May be of interest to people starting a new outfit

    Carol,

Nicely captured images. All of the jokes were already taken so only a comment.

    "Date: September 8, 2014 "

Wow! How the heck did that happen? I haven't used this camera in about a year, so guess I'd better adjust the date to the current date!

I've done a lot of research, and the Pentax K50 with 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses seems the best fit for me. Plus a friend that does outstanding photography has used Pentax for years. The K50 is simply a personal choice, as I'm sure all the major brands have quality cameras. The weather seal is a great added bonus; not only for moisture, but dust. The 55-300 lens is not WR, however if I feel it's needed, I can upgrade at a later time.

    Hi Carol,

Just to say that I also love the 2nd image. Gorgeous composition, light, and detail, and all the more special because of the cute little ant.

    Hi Carol,

Nice images, the composition, color and lighting is great. I sometimes use a point and shoot or a camera phone to take pictures. Technology is amazing these days.

Another vote for the ant on this side of the world...oh btw, can you take a shot of a newspaper with the lotto ticket winning number so that when I win the big one I can gift everyone in CiC with their favourite lens?

Re: A few from my "point & shoot" camera

These are good images. However, the Panasonic FZ40 is far from being a point and shoot camera although, of course, the vast majority of cameras can be used in a point and shoot manner, i.e. auto everything - is that what you really meant?

Good choice of new camera - and Pentax do produce a WR 55-300mm lens. I suggest that you get the Pentax K-50 DSLR Camera Kit that includes the DAL 18-55mm WR and DAL 50-200mm WR Lenses, while you save up for the WR 55-300mm higher quality lens.

    Cheers.
    Philip
