A post processing challenge ? ideas

I am interested if any members have any advice for how to change the swimsuit on this girl from the current blue to a deeper navy blue (of the uniform she should have worn!)
I am struggling with it, as the swimsuit is so similar in colour to the water..
Any suggestions/advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!

If you have Elements you can use the "replace color" function under Enhance.

Not sure what programs you have, one way is to select just the swim suit "Ctrl"> "j", that will copy it to a new layer then just pick any colour you want.

Wonderful photo! I actually like that the swim suit matches the color of the water, as that reinforces her "wing span."

Many software applications allow you to select a color and to simply change it by changing the hue or by selecting any other color. You'll get far more helpful advice if you provide the software that you use.

Thank Gentlemen, sorry not to say in the first place, but I have PS5 & Lightroom.
I tried using the magic wand to select the suit, but as its so close to pool colour, my selection gets water as well.

I use CS5, can think of a couple of methods. Duplicate the layer then erase all but the swimsuit, then magic wand and change the colour, when done just flatten the image, or at maximum res., use the polygonal lasso tool to select the swimsuit with minute straight line selections.

Try using the polygon Lasso tool to accurately select the swimming suit top at the water boundaries then enclose the selection with a rapid sloppy selection wider than the swim suit including parts of the back and shoulders. Then use the magic wand to subtract the all the skin tones that have been included in the sloppy selection.

    Thankyou again,
The polygon lasso tool with the bit by bit, selection at the boundaries, seemed to work well.
I found just painting over, didn't work, as I wanted to preserve the water on top of the swimsuit...
I think I am happy with the result.
Of course if they wore the right uniform to start, my job would be easier!

Quick try using the adjustment brush in LR 5. I know the colour isn't what you want, but with care I think it would do the job

Is there some reason I can't see any images?

None at all here. At least I'm not the only one in part at least.

And now they are all back, and I see the OP is back on line. Strange.

Competing in the nude was adopted in the ancient Olympics. Perhaps you should lobby for nude competitions now.

Not well done but another way that would need a bit more sorting. I did this with the GIMP but PS probably has something similar. I've been dying to try it.

I decomposed the image to HSV which gives a grey scale image for each. I mid tone burnt the costume in hue first which lightened it when they were recomposed so did it again and mid tone burnt it result as above. I'd guess the grey values relate to hue so if a hue number is known it should be possible to change it to any colour. Saturation and value should behave the same way.

Kay do not use the magic wand as it works best with large well defined areas, what you want to use is the quick selection tool, in the upper left hand corner high light "+" then select the area you want if there is any spill over than select "-" and remove the unwanted areas. Once done use the command "ctrl j", that will copy the selected area to a new layer and allow you to work only on the selected area. Best to zoom in when selecting the area that you want.

Another. Decompose to HSV, use threshold on H to isolate costume, paint unwanted areas black, copy image, set quick mask on main image and paste. Tidy up the quick mask if needed. Cancel quick mask to leave the selection. Use a contrast / brightness adjustment to even out the costume as there is wet and dry areas that will look odd when the colour is changed, the water is out of the selection. Then use a hue, brightness and sat adjustment to get the wanted colour. Blend a little with the original image to tidy up a bit plus a slight levels gamma adjustment as an option.

The magic wand will also make a fair job of just selecting the costume in H omitting most of the water splashes leaving little tidying up to do. Might be a better option than using threshold on it.
