    Parrot tulip

This is an old shot. I was thinking about it again because someone recently saw a big metal print of it on the wall and responded, "what's that?" It was a bear to process because of the problem of loss of detail that sometimes happens with red flowers. It's a stack (Zerene, DMap).

    C&C welcome, as always.

    Hi Dan,

Were the reds overexposed during RAW conversion, sometimes you can overlook that aspect even though the warning triangles are ablaze.

No, I don't think so. I went back and copied a histogram from one of the original shots before stacking and processing:

I've occasionally had problems with apparent loss of detail in intensely red flowers, even when there is no clipping of the red channel. It happened with another recent shot I posted here recently. I don't know the technical reasons. One way to lessen this is to pull down saturation in the red channel, which I did here. Another is to make sure that you increase contrast in a luminance-only layer to avoid inadvertently intensifying the red saturation.
