Just playing around
Out the other day just playing around with my old D70 that I had converted to IR. Made the mistake of hitting format for some reason and the camera when back home to mommy. So I had to reset everything, took 3 tries as I usually would miss something are not realize it until I put the images up on the computer. Once I got things back to the correct settings as the camera was converted to standard IR, I started to have some fun. This is a shot of a small church out in the country about 5 miles from me, in the fall with the right sky it makes for a nice shot. There are two good angles to shoot the church, because of the tress it is a tight framing. Well here is Vernonville Church.

Re: Just playing around
Allan, I really do like what you have done with the processing of the image...it's great!
But, it took me a few minutes to figure out what was wrong with the church itself...the siding isn't level.
From a personal perspective, stuff like that happens with old structures.

Re: Just playing around
Kodiak thank you for you comment, Chauncey it is not the siding it is the steeple and the roof ridge line. The steeple has a tilt to the right and the roof ridge line sloops down towards the steeple. I use the wide adaptive wide angle filter in Photoshop to try to straighten everything I must have used about 9 different sets of lines, maybe using warp then the adaptive filter may work better, but that building is a real pain. I find that using Google's NIK CEP 4's Tonal Contrast really works well as it uses some of the detail extractor but more subtle. I do not do a lot of IR and was not sure of the processing, but it looks like I am heading in the right direction.

Re: Just playing around
It's sort of pretty, is that a natural color for the trees?

Re: Just playing around
Nick with IR photography the colour green appears white, what I have done is to switch the colours channels blue is red and red is blue then moved them around to get the effect I wanted.

Re: Just playing around
Nicely done and proving that there is life for old cameras. I converted a Canon D60 (not the newer 60D) to full time IR and enjoy playing with it. I mostly do B&W like this one of my home...
D60 converted to F/T IR, 12-24mm Tokina f/4 Mk-1, ISO 100, 1/180 second @ f/11
