A couple of m 4/3 dragon fly telephoto shots.

Having some spare time I thought I would see what I could recover from a couple of shots from raw this time with a little more care. Not sure if I like the end result though as I suspect I have pushed things too far playing with an ICC 2002 colour model. They are both pretty heavy crops.

Not sure why I used 200mm on this one when I could have gone to 300mm. Probably too excited. It's the only one I have seen settle and it flew off after these shots.

You may well have pushed things a little too far.

This is the over exposed camera jpg version so not so sure about that Brian. Just sharpened from memory and a bit of curve applied. One of the mods to the other one was to darken it according to the colour model - imitate human vision - so the colours will saturate more.

I suspect I miss named the model should be CIE 2002

The bokeh in the second shot is impressively soft. Nicely done.

Thanks Dan. Bit creamier version of 1 but it's a bit late to do anything about the brighter leaves especially the blown patch. I must try and look at everything not just the bit I'm working on.

Thanks John. This is my most annoying insect. Not being able to near enough to one to use a macro set up.

    Hi John,

Just to say that I too think the bokeh in the 2nd image is very nice, with some beautiful detail captured in the wings. I also like the head on view of the dragonfly.

John I like the face of #2 but I think #1 needs a bit of work on where the dragon fly is perched on...can you blur it a bit so the colour is not that even from top to the bottom of the shot? I am sure the dragonfly needed to be the star of the shot, not all of that thingie it landed on...just a thought....

No. But don't take me seriously. Actually I prefer it as it is in that respect.

I've vignetted it heavily and also blurred most of it a little. I like the branch so don't want to loose it. I rotated the lot by about 10 degrees to get a crop I liked on the branch - not exactly as I wanted but nearly.

I really see little faces in these dragonflies...the first one is a little bit too serious like a MAFIA look. The second one is more like an on-your-face expression saying "Oh yeah! what yah gonna do now?!" look. really love these two...
