    Beach Fence

This was taken a couple nights ago about fifteen minutes before sunset. I like the color image, but wanted to try a black and white, seems like a good candidate for it. Which version do you prefer? How can I improve the b&w?

    C and C welcome

I like the color version, the diagonals continue in the sky whereas they are a bit lost in the mono version. The mono version needs a bit more contrast.

I prefer the colour version for the light on the fence.

The b&w would be improved if you increased the tonal range. You could try increasing the saturation before converting, and then dropping the black point.

This is a quick effort just to illustrate what I mean.

It's the colour version for me Ali, such a shame to lose that light with the B&W.

Colour version for me too, Ali....same thoughts as Grahame -- the light is too good to lose there...

But I like the edit of Greg...I learned something there about PP that I had not thought of before to do. When I take a shot, I remember Donald's advice to think in B/W before pressing the shutter so that is what I follow and it seems to work for me. I don't know if it works in the eyes of others though because I haven't uploaded it to the group yet...

Greg...I love your edit...it really made the fence pops up some more...

    Hey Ali,

The colour shot has a too yellow WB this is not so pleasing to me. Since the
colours are not right, the B&W rendition cannot be "lively! but rather flat.

I like very much Gerg's suggestion… but I would try first the WB tool!

    Hi Ali,

Just to say that I adore this image. Absolutely beautiful! I love the light, fine detail in the sand and the unique composition. I prefer the colour version. I like your version of the b&w because I like the light airy feel of the scene in your b&W. (note, my images are often referred to as too flat)

Hi Ali, I love the color and light in #1. I like Greg's edit too but I prefer the color version. Very nice composition , the fence takes my eyes to the edge of the frame but then white clouds take them back into the image
