Parkdale Market - Ottawa Canada - Sep 2014

Prior to heading out on a trip; I spend some time getting both myself and my equipment ready. I'm still working to get the results I want out of my mFT Panasonic GX7, and decided to see how the 100-300mm lens works for street photography work in a crowded market place; as I am still debating whether to take that lens or not. My local proxy for that is the Parkdale Famer's Market in Ottawa. The challange is keeping track of my wife as she wanders between the farmer's stalls and us trekking back to the car with boxes and bags of fresh fruits and veggies. I did manage to get a few shots in.

I love the market at this time of year, when all of the local fresh fruits and vegetables are available. Picked within the past 24 hours and trucked just a few km / miles.

    3. An interesting marketing tool at one of the stalls. Pumpkin pies are a bit of a tradition at Thankgiving. The Canadian Thanksgiving is in early to mid-October.

    5. This mixed box of sweet peppers and tomatos ended up at our house for dinner last night. Yum!

As an aside; I've pretty well decided that the lens is accompanying me to India in addition to the 14-140mm one.

If you decide to leave the lens home, that certainly wouldn't be because it's not a good fit with that camera.

My favorites are the last three images but I'm especially intrigued by the pumpkins. The sign implies that some pumpkins might be better than others for making pies. Is that so? I'm also not used to seeing pumpkins decorated at the time of sale. Very cool!

    Hi Manfred,

I like your 1st image. The decisive moment - look of concern ?

According to my pie authority (a.k.a. my wife) there are indeed pumpkins (a member of the squash family) that are good for pies as opposed to the ones grown for carving into jackolanterns for Halloween. Apparently the pie pumpkins are fleshier.

When it comes to having painted pumpkins at the market; that is a first for me too.

After your intro narration and the confusion of whether to take your lens with you on your trip, I was expecting to see at least a shot of your wife just weaving in and out of the stalls so I slowly scrolled to the first one. Nope, that one cannot be your wife with all those rings on her...not even located on her fingers mind you! 'Was pretty disappointed there for a while...until I saw the rest of your gallivanting shots. Pretty made up for the disappointment...good pick of subjects and objects....
