Hi again Marie I'm uploading two cloned versions of the image. My cloning skills are not good enough to make perfect edits yet but I'm sure you can do better than me if you want to clone the blown out parts to your taste.

Thank you for showing me a different option, but to me, something is not quite right, but I do not know enough to tell you exactly what it is. I wish I identify it. Maybe it is the balance of the image?

Izzie and Daniel, I wondered if anyone else would notice. I refrained to mention her, because sometimes when we have expectations, we see little else. If I had told you to look for the spider, you would not have enjoyed this image as much.

May be it looks unbalanced comparing to the original Marie. Personally the first edit (top left uncropped) doesn't look bad to me because it seems as if the light comes from top left. The cloning job could be done better by spending more time on it , but I wonder which image is more preferable compositionally. Let's see what the others would like to say about it

BTW , I also added a very faint warming filter to the blown out parts in the edits so that they don't look too bright. It doesn't show very much but it can be adjusted to one's taste.

Marie...as someone mentioned it, I notice more things that meets the normal seeing eyes. I am sure Daniel is the same. Sometimes I refrain to comment on those because I was either too tired or just want to let it go and use my humour more to lighten things up a little bit. In the case of your shot, your title says "Spider Kite" so I looked for a spider first. The web is nicely shot. I have no problem nor nits to pick on it so it is the spider for me to look for and at learning from the many macro shots of bugs and spiders from Geoff, David, DanK, Grahame and others, I tend to look for bugs first...call it "bug trauma" ...

Nanadakumar, thank you. After I shot this, I thought of you and your Mindscapes thread. It was early in the morning, and up in the hills, the mist and rising sun were a physical presence. The experience reminded me of how small we actually are in the universe.

I did seriously work all angles. If you like, I can post some of the rejects so you could see some of my process?

Marie, knowing how meticulous you are, I suspected as much. Most serious photographers, you and I included, will explore an enticing scene from a number of vantage point while 'working' the image but in the end we post what we feel is the best of the crop and, unless we are teaching the process, would never consider showing the views that led us to the final presentation.

You are doing very well and for me, this is one of the best spider web images I have ever seen. I have tried many times but have never been able to capture a web as beautifully portrayed as this one. Keep on impressing us Marie, we all have a lot to learn from one another!

I consider you did extremely well Marie and have produced an image of quality and interest that many would have not attempted because the books tell you not to do it.

I agree - sometimes rules are there to be broken because it works better that way and you have well and truly succeeded in a great shot here with the burnt out bits adding to the image not detrimental thereto
