A wet and cold bumblebee in morning dew

A few days ago, I found a few bumblebees that hadn't gone home in time and were kind of stuck in the morning cold. They were soaking wet from dew. They eventually warmed up and left.

    C&C welcome, as always.

Great shot, Dan. I never thought I would use the word 'cute' to describe a bee, but this bedraggled specimen qualifies for that adjective.

You have to feel rather sorry for him in that bedraggled state but he will soon dry out, good capture Dan.

I have seen bees in that state before, it has made me wonder if the worker bees do not actually "go to bed", but just sleep on the flowers, and wake up when it's warm enough, which isn't always so early late in the summer, but I really don't know.

It does look to be in a sorry state and you've caught it well . Interesting capture.

Bedraggled state or what, at least it was wet enough for you to have caught it in its slowest state. Really looks pitiful but what a beautiful shot even with all its hairs in a mess!

I rarely comment on macro as I personally find it boring, however, I had to say that this is a lovely shot with such detail, contrast and interest

    Thanks, all.

Nick, I think they mostly do go back to their nests. We have loads of them buzzing around until late afternoon, but then they mostly vanish. I almost never see them in this state early in the morning. On the other hand, there are lots of insects that don't have nests. I have seen beautiful shots of damselflies and dragonflies covered by morning dew, but I have never manage to find one myself.

Matt, they are really benign little creatures. I have spent countless hours bothering bumblebees and have never had one get aggressive. Nothing like some of their vespid cousins, some of whom are very aggressive.
