Well this is the original pic, Dave. The bee isn't really so big.

And I like your version. Even I thought of rotating it a bit and reducing the noise, but felt lazy. Was quite excited to upload this and see some critiques.
    Thanks.

I think the crop you have is fine (including the 45 degree tilt - I thought that was deliberate ), but the noise does need dealing with really.

    Cheers,

    Lifelines!

C&C please! Is it over exposed? Should the torn parts of the leaf be 'repaired' ???

    Re: Lifelines!

Hi Sahil. I do find the brightness of the sky distracts my eye, so I took the liberty of having a wee play.

To get it this way, I opened in ACR.
    Moved Exposure slider to -1.60
    Fill Light to 50
    Blacks to 30
    Brightness to +20
Opened in Photoshop and did a quick select of the leaf. Deselected the bits where the sky shows through the leaf and then did a slight s-curve in Curves on the selection. I then saw that I'd over-cooked the blacks a bit, so did some selective dodge on the darker areas.

I certainly wouldn't remove any of the holes in the leaf, as this just adds to the feeling of something dying and decaying.
    But I'm no wizz.

    Re: Lifelines!

    Hi Sahil,

I also believe the leaf shouldn't be repaired.

Over exposed? Maybe, but to my mind it comes with the territory, it is shot looking toward the sun (is it not?), so a bright picture is to be expected.

While Kit's PP'd version is an improvement, I find it a small improvement; without comparing the two images side-by-side (ok, one-above-the-other), I would not say either is badly done or needs re-doing (if you know what I mean).

The biggest distraction I find is the clouds at the bottom, which being from the northern hemisphere just seems odd to me

No, seriously, I appreciate they are natural there, but they do pull my eye off the subject unless I scroll the browser to get them off the bottom, so perhaps a crop that just takes them off would suit me better, but that's a personal view only.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the replies.
Kit, I like what you have done to the picture.

Yes Dave, I had taken this shot looking towards the sun. I wanted a few to include clouds in my shot. There was a nice cloud formation a couple of minutes before I took this shot. My bad luck.
There is a contact who took the same picture but has many clouds in them. Will provide the link to it once he uploads them somewhere.

Thanks a lot for the input
    Much appreciated!
