Nice composition with the moon included. Perhaps a little cropping of the right side would improve it.

PS, I read up on bluebird molt patterns, but the thread got bumped off the front page, so I don't know if you noticed!

Hey Chuck -- welcome back. I was thinking of you (and another friend not a member here) when I heard about the fires at Yellowstones...

If I were to try to describe why I didn't think that rule applied here, I might say it's because Chuck has a complex composition here with the moon lined up with the tree, and so has a necessarily determined center of the scene. Then having extra room on the right is just making it look un-balanced. -Just my thoughts at least, others may see it differently.

Binnur and Nick, Thank you for the feedback. I tried it in B&W but felt it lacked sufficient contrast to make a good photo. Nick, I wanted to show the rightmost pile of lava and not have the tree to centered. I found photographing in Craters of the Moon quite challenging. This is my best effort to show some of the variety of substrate and still have it interesting. And thank you for your research on Mt. Bluebird molting. Because of your note I went back and read your post.

Izzie, thanks for the input. The fires are out and all is well. I plan to go to Yellowstone in about a month to catch the end of fall and the beginning of winter.

Nice; yet i would go for a vertical composition. or else, i would crop in order that tree is more to the left. I like the colors very much

CIC is a great way to exchange ideas.

I was curious if you had seen my recent thread called "Animal Tracks" with photos I have collected, and some of my interpretive attempts about them. I read a booklet on animal tracking from SAR.

Chuck - that NP is one truly awesome place, we spent a few hours there 2 years ago but one does really have to work hard to find images as fine as yours.
