    Hey Brian,

You make your monster look even bigger by letting the legs spread outside the frame!

I don't know where it comes from but the head and abdothorax are bright but the
legs are kind of dull! I tried to brighten them up and it works at rendering a more
vivid visual experience as well as improving separation.

Using a soft dodge brush at 60-70%, you should get the same results. If it is your
    wish, I could post mine.

Post away One of my joys is that we get to talk with pictures. Here is the original and as you can see it is the natural colouring of the beasty. The legs are translucent in the pale areas.

Here is my suggestion for the rendition of your beast:

You have certainly brought the center of the beast more into focus and I like how it looks. You have captured a subtlety that is lacking in my rendering.

I'm curious Brian should the yellow pattern on the main body of the spider be white or yellow? If you load up the original and use auto levels you will see what I mean. The yellow triangle stays. The camera has clipped blue at the dark end and that can cause some odd problems.

I suspect it should look like this but on the other hand maybe not? A tiny tinge of the yellow is still there but mostly gone.

I just went out and the lines are bright, very bright yellow while the triangle is close to the colour of the legs.

Yellow often seems to be an odd ball colour on digital cameras. I notice it more on some that others. Having had problems when it's rather bright I have decided to under expose on purpose but that would still have clipped the dark end of the blue channel even more in this case. Looks like there may be a need to do the opposite in some cases. Not sure will have to find out when something suitable turns up.

If you have an rgb histogram on the camera preview that would give some idea if it is happening. It can be a pain to sort out.
