Thanks Kodiak. You have it right. In truth, this was one of a series of images I played with when My other half said I should print and hang something but I have yet to complete the commission.
Very painterly...and you better listen to your wife. I love the effect here.
It would make a great note card.
I loved the treatment, very nice
Its a great shot and well done on accepting the commission
Nice processing. My suggestion would be to have this printed on canvas. That would enhance the "painted" effect. This would also make for a great postcard. Might also want to try a darker vignette, maybe dark grey or a rust tone. I like the overall feel of the photo but maybe without the "modern" pickup truck in the background. Elimination of the vehicles would make this appear even "older" than it already looks. Great job!!
I also like the effect of the overlay and think that it really adds to the image. The only thing which I am not so keen on is the truck in the BG image left. I suspect that if the relatively bright driver's side of the truck were darkened a bit, my eye would not fly to that area...
Thanks all for your comments and apologies for the delay in getting back. Life is a bit busy. Brian/Richard, you are right about the vehicle. Don't know why I didn't see it before. A canvas print looks good as well but I need to put it to the Managing Director.
Not the sort of image treatment I would normally take much notice of John but I like it very much. The subject could not be better and having a marine background it's of particular interest.
As for the car, it's a boatyard and there's bound to be some around
Thanks Graham. I think the comments about the car were in the context of it being suitable for hanging. I've called it a "Tug" but I think that rather than helping to manoeuvre larger vessels, it had probably spent its life towing logs as so many of these small ships in that area do.
