    Hung out to dry

Took this shot of a Kookaburra drying itself out after a bath.
Is there enough separation between subject and background.

Very good Greg. From a DOF viewpoint, I think there is sufficient separation. You could try reducing the brightness of the background a little to get more separation.

    Thanks Grahame & Dave,
Dave I did darken the background a little especially with the green leaves behind the birds head using the burn tool, perhaps a little more then?

Maybe Greg but it mightn't achieve a lot more. Perhaps just the brighter bits like that branch on the left.

IMO although it looks better with less branches, indeed the bird itself makes the photo Greg. So sharp and clear and cute. Loved it

Good capture, Greg. The dof separation looks good to me. If you wanted to tone it down a bit though, why not use the quick selection tool to select the background and then lower the brightness with a brightness/contrast layer

Greg...yes there is enough separation. I like the original version best. I noticed you changed your avatar...I like the other one better too, says more about the you that you are.
