    Spider Town

We have had a few very good spider webs here lately so I thought I would share a couple grabbed early today.

The field I came across was totally covered in webs on the vegetation and with the low sunlight behind looked spectacular. I attempted to portray how it looked but failed I believe by going for detail rather than a larger area.

This shot shows the untidiness of spider town.

This is quite a severe crop of one image showing one of the many inhabitants.

Next trip I'll take the macro and do some serious work to capture those water drops.

Comments and suggestions welcome as always.

The first image showing the environment is fascinating, but this is a great idea.

You've got a challenge there. That's a pretty tangled bunch of foliage to work with. In the second shot IMO it will work much better if the entire web is within the DOF. But then that BG would be really bad. The trick may be to find one of the webs that's lit with the BG still in shadow. Like I said, it will be challenging to be sure.

The thought of that many spiders in one place creeps me out...

Agree Chauncey, getting some good spider shots with the water droplets on them is the aim and with any luck they may still be asleep

Dan, the foliage is difficult to get through without disturbing the webs but far more significant was that the ground was so uneven because what would appear level and grass covered in places was a a 2 ft drop to solid footing. It was impossible to locate a tripod on anything solid.

I think there will be lots of options for the webs exploring DoF and light angles and then of course whether it's going to be the spider or web that you want to emphasise.

The environmental shot as in No 1 I'm suspecting now can be achieved better if using a wide angle as close as possible to one web at the side of the image. Some experimentation needed as to definition up real close.
