    A couple of spiders

There has not been many around here this year. I just found 2 in the garden today. This one was about 8mm long and the wrong side of the web. When I pushed some branches out of the way to get another shot it scooted.

Unfortunately this one moved into a less favourable position by the time I had fetched the camera. The bulbous part of the body was under 5mm dia.

It was side on and on top of the web when I first saw it.

Both E-M5, 75-300mm plus an achro close up lens. Focal lengths as per exif.

mmmmm I just did one from raw and found that the 2x digital converter was on when I took these jpg's. I should have been able to see that in the viewfinder

The second one, John, is a Linyphiidae; and at this time of the year I would guess Linyphia triangularis, but there are a few alternatives.

They construct a very fine horizontal web and usually sit underneath it. If you look closely at the web design it will be a wonder of engineering with many carefully placed vertical hanging supports. Quite different from the more 'traditional' web constructed by the Araneus diadematus (Garden Spider) in the first photo.

Wow John...I like #2 image very much...I see it differently like as it the web is water and the little guy (?) is underneath it with the top forming like splashes...very nice..

    Re: A couple of spiders

Thanks Izzie. The garden spider is a lot better than one I took a couple of years ago so I am pleased with that one too.

As the digital zoom was on these are not far off 100% resolution crops. On the other hand this has probably given me a lot of depth of field. I'm not at all sure how this has happened. The info displayed in the viewfinder has changed. I sometime suspect Oly have software gremlins. Do this, do that etc and something else changes.
