    Too many choices

I went out on Saturday to get the rising sun through the opening in an old barn.

While waiting I was confronted by the need to choose whether to continue to shoot the barn or change and get the illuminated clouds south and/or north of were I was standing. I chose all three.

Never did get the shot I went out for.

Always a bit of a conundrum when this happens as the light is so fleeting. Once choice precludes the other(s).

Yes Trevor, I know what you mean. See a good scene with perfect clouds. Get the camera and change lenses; think about settings and change to something more suitable. And by then, it is too late because everything has altered!

I wonder about slightly reducing the black at the bottom of the first image? But the sky has worked fine in all three of them, even if it changed form with each shot.

Hi Trevor , I was wondering where you and the barn were for a long time I especially like #1 and #3 . Is the barn so dark or have you darkened it deliberately? Is it possible to bring out some details of it?

Looks like you enjoyed the morning, Trevor. The third shot has the loveliest sky IMO, but for the overall image I like no.2. It might be interesting with a pano crop if you can retain enough of the sky.

Geoff and Binnur: There is no detail in the barn or the foreground. This was shot before sunrise and in order not blow out the colour in the lower part of the sky I had to severely underexpose the barn and foreground. Shooting a series of shots for HDR is one option, so far I have been less than happy with the results; just too artificial looking. And I do not have a the capacity to do focus stacking. So black it is.

Beautiful colours in all three, Trevor. I don't have a problem with the barn and foreground being black - that is what you get before sunrise and I think any attempt at hdr would spoil it.

They are all strong compositions but I prefer the 2nd. I like the shadows in the clouds and the apparent movement. But overall, it has a quintessential bucolic feel to it - reminds of the Romantics.

Egad! Will this stealing of images and reposting as your own never cease? Now they have stooped so low as to steal pictures while they are still in my camera unprocessed.

The two more likely explanations are:
    1) Reflects my lack of creativity/originality. I frequently shoot from the same position, at the same time of the day and the same subject. I must have a couple of hundred shots of this barn at sunrise. Close duplicates are a strong probability.

    2) The sheer number of images out there. At some point it becomes likely a very similar image to another will be created.

I like your barn shots. I rather like #1 as is and it's my pick. Nice creamy clouds and colors in #2.

    Re: Too many choices

Technically, the lead in provided by the road in no.3 should make it the best comp but this is all about colour and I agree that 1 and 2 are the images of choice for me. Two very nice images.
