    Bees

I decided to go back to where I saw the monarchs with a macro lens but none appeared. I did get some bees though. Conditions were far rom ideal though as it was fairly windy. Hand held using an external flash. As someone mentioned in my other thread I removed the hood from the lens....

I thought it was kinda cool the way the wings are blurred yet also frozen in this pic....

    Re: Bees

Thanks David and John. I have no idea what they are. The day before there was all kinds of the green ones but the next day just a few. I think they are some sort of bee. They were gathering pollen. They and the normal looking bees would only stay on a flower for a second or too. I guess most of the pollen was gone.

I was beaten to the punch here as I like #1 too...he must have been to a few flowers before this one as he is full of pollens all over...#4 is very coollllll -- care to share the settings for this one? It looks like the blur of the rotor of a helicopter!

Thanks Izzie......Canon 70d, Manual Exposure, F11, SS 1/200, 100mm macro, external flash mounted on camera fired. The bee was just jumping up from the lower flower(where I was trying to focus at first). That with the wind made for a lucky shot.

Nice shots. Yes, the first one is almost certainly a bee. Honeybees, as you probably know, are not indigenous to this continent, but there are many species that are, and some are either partly or entirely green. The ones I have seen have all been smaller than honeybees, some much smaller.

What a fantastic set of bee images Paul! The first one is uniquely coloured and the second is very nicely detailed. Lovely captures!
