A Day at the Horse Track

Hello Cambridge community it's been a while since I posted on here. I would like to get some critique on some pictures I took this summer.

I finally got a chance to practice some casual, candid style photography at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in San Diego. I grew up visiting this track as a kid and every year this venue gains notoriety as one of America's most prestigious tracks.

I decided to approach the shoot as a candid street photographer since I would be getting up and close to total strangers. I didn't want to have an intrusive lens in their face so I set the lens to manual focus and used a zone focusing technique, all while keeping my camera strapped to my neck and resting on my chest.

This technique, with a little bit of luck resulted in a selection I'm pretty happy with.

All images shot with the Canon 5D Mark II using the Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L. All images shot in RAW and processed using Light Room 5 with basic sliders, a quick curve adjustment and some split toning. All images were shot in aperture priority.

Any critique is welcomed, of course I would like technical critique on the photography but I am also looking for editorial critique for the set as a whole and the reportage style of the shoot. Thanks

    Javier

Though I am not fond of this kind of rendering treatment, just personal taste,
    your consistency is remarkable.
…and my favourite take among these is #5. Very dramatic!

I like the high key treatment of the first and the skintone conversion of the second.
