    Assynt

As many on here know, I'm not big into colour photography, much preferring B & W.

It also feels like ages (it is ages) since I posted a pic on here for your comment & critique.

Well, I did have a week's break a couple of weeks ago and headed to Assynt, an area in the north-west corner of Scotland. The largest community there is the village of Lochinver. But in this part of the world you've got to think of 'community' as meaning an area extending over many, many miles. This is rural Scotland. A wild, rugged and majestic landscape.

There was one colour image came out of my week's activity. This is it. As always your thoughts and views are welcome.

Donald, I really like this image. I like how the light goes from dark on the foreground to brighter for the bg. Also what I like is how the ruggedness shows through the mist.

I just wonder if the dark cloud is a fraction on the 'heavy' side?

Maybe a very slight crop from the top and a similar amount from the sides; or perhaps just the left side?

Terrific image! I especially like that the cloud formation points our eye downward to the layers in the topography.

Though I like this in color, I think I would like it as much and perhaps even more in monochrome. It's interesting that you of all people chose to go with color.

Mike - See my other one here.

EDIT - I should have added that the decision to make the colour image was based on a true democratic process in which my dearly beloved said something along the lines of, "You better make a colour picture of that or ...... (expletives deleted)"

What a beautiful country. Our family is thinking of visiting in 2016 - this will be on the agenda. What time of day was this?

This was just before 8:30am on 11th September. What you have to remember being this far north, is that sunrise (and sunset) vary enormously depending on the time of year. For example, up here in June, sunrise would somewhere around 4am, with sunset being after 10pm. Whereas in January/February, we'd be looking at about 8 hours of daylight maximum.

Absolutely beautiful! One of my favourites of your images! I love the layers, mist and sky. And I love your b&w version of this scene just a wee bit more and I'm a colour person.

Very nice Donald. Lovely pastel colours and great depth in the image as a result of the layers. You received good advice from your better half on this I think.
