To David (deetheturk) Cedar Key house ...

Comments welcome and critiques if you have any...I know...I suck at this birdie shoot thingie yet, but I will get it right one of these days... Wish me luck...I have the house to myself right now preparing for a party tonight for 30 people with my Tucker while Bill is out gallivanting at the airport fixing a Bonanza with his best friend...he'll be back in time with the booze while I empty his credit card...

    1. Our backyard:

I tried to shoot some birdies but they are just too far away and I do not know what I am doing. I will try some more later on...

    2. Our boat with a little bit of our SUV showing. I will have to go out to the docks later on ... might try to shoot some static birdies instead... Tidy up the shrubs later on...so do not look at my mess...please...

Wow Izzie, what a back yard you will have to drag your butt down to the edge of the water to have any chance with they birdie things Make sure you have the dinner prepared before you start on the drink

    Enjoy your evening pal David.

That's some back yard !!! If you can't get the birdie thing, don't worry there's plenty of landscape shots to take with that view on your doorstep.

PS - hope the party's good - we're doing dinner for the neighbours and at present all is under control....................

I agree with Kaye that your back yard is very suitable for landscape shots. You should try more of them . Have a nice party

Nice captures, I like the dappled lighting effect of the second. The shadow patterns on the boat cover are worth further exploration.

OK...I backed off early and am now in my laptop. Hubby is still talking airplanes to his airplane crowd. Sick of it now so I am in hiding. It is still a good party there outiside despite that it nearly rained out. Anyway enough of them, I tried these shots this afternoon when I saw this egret showing off for my camera...so I grabbed the nearest camera I have before it flew away...no editing, and some a bit overblown in the whites so I will edit later on...I just zoomed in 100% then cropped. Not perfect but I will try some more better shots -- of other birdies. No more egrets. I am egret-ted out this arvo (afternoon in strine dialect...)

You are allowed to shoot me down now. I do not mind. My lens is not good enough or the operator is. I am blaming my camera, OK???

These are about as good as I get too Izzie, but at 100% crop straight out camera they are never going to be perfect Need to get one of the birders to steer you in the right direction

Apart from "exposure" I would say that they are pretty good for 100% crops. Getting real feather detail at this size is a big ask. Shapes are all that can be expected really and white is tough anyway. Nothing wrong with the lens or operator *. Only going longer would help but stability gets a bit demanding then. I reckon the only answer is getting closer really but maybe 600mm might help.

Touches on my problem. 300mm on m 4/3 isn't long enough at times. 600mm on my D7000 would only make the images 50% bigger. If I buy the Olympus 300mm prime when it comes out a lot of the time it would be too long.

    * Maybe a touch of under exposure on whites and bright yellows but I bet Izzie knows what she can get out of raw.

Thanks John...you have always been a good help. When I start editing my uploads when I get home, I will play around with it from my desktop. I am facing a wall here where I am where the light is only good for food photography at the moment. I will upload another two shots in another post..
