Great set, Grahame. I would be very happy with any one of these but the 2nd shot is definitely the standout, followed closely by the final portrait shot. I'm not bothered by the darkness on his face, in fact I prefer your original version to the edit; I think it is more dramatic with half his face in shadow.

These are all very nice. My favorites are #2 & #4 (with the shadows in the face brought up a bit) for the reasons everyone else stated. I also like the others but feel the man is a little close to the edge of the frames. What a nice idea to capture these!

Thanks Greg, I'm also inclined towards the deeper shadowed face and to be honest I find looking at it on screen with different ambient lighting and whether at the top or lower of my screen it looks different each time.

I'm not convinced Terri about bringing the shadows up on the face, if there was an overwhelming majority with viable reasons to do it I may possibly be persuaded more

Framing was too tight on No 3 but I considered the action in it made it worthwhile working on. I'll be looking for some more opportunities to shoot these guys as it make an interesting picture.

All keepers from the session are now sorted, final edits done and here's a few more from that evening.

No 1 - Dancing on water
    The Fisherman

No 2 - Looking for the fish
    The Fisherman

No 3 - The lights going
    The Fisherman

No 4 - The tourists leave us
    The Fisherman

And I get up off my log on the foreshore and go home

Grahame, wonderful images, great light, but what I really like with the fisherman is that there is a sense of life
    in the images.

    Hi Rita,

Thanks for commenting. I suspect it's the isolation of the fisherman from the background due to the light that has added the life into the images, it's something I need to explore more as I very rarely shoot images of people.

    Hi David,

Thanks, it makes a change from shooting bugs although at present they still seem to be hiding. The new lens is opening a few more opportunities but the trouble is that you then start thinking what you could do with something longer

    Cheers, Grahame

The second set you uploaded are all wonderful and shows how serious you are about getting up early. Beautiful sets, Grahame...just don't forget I told you first about that dance OK?

Izzie, these were all late afternoon shots, much more sociable

Ok, we call it the 'Izzie Fish Dance'

The guys wife and small child were there waiting and stood in the shallow water with the sun directly behind them but I blew the shot. From the amount of fish he caught I do not think the wife was going to have many to cook for dinner.

The third one has potential to be magical for me if there was more water at the bottom. It's so good that if it were mine I would clone the water to add it if I didn't capture more of it at the bottom. I would also convert to monochrome and perhaps tint it with warm toning.

There's no more water at the bottom on the original Mike but a very quick look at the Flip and Mirror tools available along with some cloning I suspect it's a goer. I may have to consult Christina, the expert at working with water.

I did a very quick B&W conversion and there may be some potential to expand on this.
