    The advantage of insomnia......

.....is that you're already up so you may as well get out with the camera. Caught this sunrise light in mist on the C&D canal. I tried to put some emphasis on the foreground rocks (brought up shadows, sharpened, clarity) to contrast with the softness of the mist on the water and the way the mist softened the bridge. All C&C is solicited and appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

Very well done with the foreground but I think you neglected to rest of the
frame… for exemple: what about a counter clock wise tweak to straighten
the verticals! Andrew, back to the board and perform some magic… please!

    Kodiak,
Thanks for the comment. I had another go at straightening using the bridge as the reference, which is what I did the first time. Using Lightroom the bridge appears horizontal and vertical to my eye (of course perhaps it's my old eyes!) The utility poles are not vertical either in the image or in reality. Do you see any improvement in this version?

Lovely colours. Any chance you can clone out the twig(s) bottom right ??

I made an effort to remove those bottom right twigs but kept making a mess of it! I use Lightroom 5 and the clone/spot removal often shows my lack of skill in that area. Perhaps I'll try again when I've had some sleep.

None! …sorry. The problem here is a perception and an understanding one.
You think the bridge is straight because the roadway is horizontal and this
is a common mistake. The only lines that matter really are the vertical ones
because they were made to be perpendicular to the centre of the planet and,
in this, will always escape the play of perspective projection. Which, I know
you guessed by now, does not apply to horizontal lines.

So, using the horizontal lines as reference was not your better idea. Try
with the vertical lines of the bridge.

My perception using Lightroom with the grids is that the horizontal and vertical lines of the bridge are horizontal and vertical so it's going to have to do for now.

Very nice image... As I was scrolling, I noticed that I liked the image even better with the brighter portion of the sky cropped out.
I hope you don't mind my playing with your image. I also increased the structure of the image right side of the bridge; leaving the image left side to be modified by the mist.
Finally, for some strange reason, I thought that darkening the tops of the tree (lower on the image) reflections to accentuate the fish boils (?) would be an idea. I thought that this would carry the impression of the mist obscuring the reflections in the distance...

Unfortunate about the insomnia but positive use of your time. Nice image.

+1 to John's comment above me...it doesn't help with thinking straight when you are tired...but I like the composition and colour and the mood of your shot, so nothing is really amissed here...love it, Andrew...

It seems we have a few early starters here Andrew.

The image certainly conveys that time of day well and I like the use of the foreground rocks on just the one side.

I have no objection at all to others adjusting or playing with images I post; it's all about the learning curve and seeing the possibilities.

The tighter crop simplifies and pares the image down to the essentials that made me take the photograph; the light and the mist with the water and bridge playing strong supporting roles. I'm on a kick where I'm trying to work towards some minimalist images. I mean minimalist in the sense of eliminating as many elements as I can that were not the elements that motivated me to take the picture. In this instance the sky is nice, and I still like it with the clouds but now you show me the possibility of what it can be without the clouds I find I quite like it that way.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Thanks to everybody for their comments and advice. Particularly thank you Kodiak for showing me that vertical isn't always what it seems.
