    A Day at the (Boat) Races

    Today I spend my time at the boat races. This event is a big affair in New Martinsville, WV.

    In addition to the races and race related activities, several things were also going on in the village itself.

    The great thing about having a 'photographer's eye' is that you see them (as you have demonstrated here). So many of these other things just become background blur for people who aren't looking, but are of themselves interesting.

    Nice series, I like #8 and 9, shame about the direction of light but you worked through it very well.

    I like #4 best...!!! I'd like to meet whoever wrote that Pain is hilarious! thingie. You have a knack of seeing things and your composition is superb. Love all of them.

    The 2nd shot is my favourite of the set, Marie, but the boat pictures are really well done. You have captured the sense of speed very well. I have looked at this set a few times today, wondering why they are so successful because I can see no motion blur in the boats. So it has to be because of the way you have captured the plume / wake.

    David (the Turk) thank you.

    Donald, our dear mod, thank you, too for the high complement. I feel that I am coming into myself bit by bit. While I may not have to skills required to capture the image properly, I can at least start to show others a little bit of my vision.

    John, agreed about the light. It was starting on early evening, and the sun was laying across the water. Difficult to manage.

    Izzie, lols, I was thinking of you when I took that picture. You impress me as having a warped sense of humor - like me. {fade to muffled giggling}

    Greg, at speeds of 155mph, it was tough to do these boats justice.

    Binnur, as always, thank you. I loved how #2 turned out as well.

    And, although Mike has not commented here, I do need to thank him as well, for he was the first to encourage me to pursue a vision, which may not have necessarily have been what the camera faithfully recorded, but what my mind's eye saw.

    A lovely series - you really have captured the whole event. I particularly like the 4th shot and agree with Greg regarding the boats - very well seen.

    Thanks, Kaye. I thought shooting the boats would be easy, but it was just the opposite.
