    Views from the duck blind

In a previous post, I mentioned that getting out into the outdoors is what recharges my batteries and saves me money from seeing a therapist. Here are a couple of examples of what I'm describing. These were taken last year and is somewhat typical of the kind of sunrises and beginnings to the day I get to see first hand while out duck hunting. We got there in the pitch dark and got to witness this amazing sunrise. The decoy that you see on the pole is a spinning wing decoy that simulates a duck landing on the water. Just for those that weren't aware. That isn't some flaw in the photo. Not bad for a P&S camera.

Good moody shots but I think anyone who gets up in the dark on a freezing morning to sit in an uncomfortable spot still needs to see a therapist...

I agree with LPaul's comment...I hope you do not do this in winter -- I mean freezing your butt behind that blind...hey! that is dedication. If it saves you talking rubbish to someone you do not know personally, go for it. Your mates out there are good for venting too. Make sure you have a lot of beer to go around...

Very nice scenery ... if I am to choose which one between the two, I can't. They are both good.

Methinks that Brian, unknowingly mind you, opened a can of worms.
Think about the wide variety of things that, mostly guys, we do simply to escape whatever...
from going ice fishing to hiding out in our man caves or sitting in a duck blind, we need alone time.

    BTW, they are nice pictures.

Thanks to all for the compliments. To settle a few details about this kind of photography, yes, duck hunting goes from mid October to the end of January. And, YES, it gets cold on occasion. We've even had to spend an hour or so breaking a hole in the ice just to float our decoys. BUT, it is still well worth seeing some amazing sunrises, wildlife and spending time with friends just as dedicated (crazy some might say) as me. I'm not sure my buddies see and appreciate the sights & sounds in the way I do, but, it's all good. The new season is approaching and I will try to get some more shots from a perspective not all people will get to see. Glad all of you enjoy the glimpse into my wintertime ventures.

Love the 2nd shot in particular. I have never heard of duck hunting before.

Thank you. Duck hunting is VERY popular here in the states and in particular, here in Oregon. There is a lot of effort, discomfort at times, and $$ that goes into this type of hunting, but, I don't know of any sport or hobby that doesn't have those same characteristics. I have met some great new friends while out pursuing ducks and always strike up conversations with complete strangers that make me feel like I've known them for years. I'm sure that's a little hard to understand for people that aren't into that particular pastime.

I'm going to make this kind of photography a project for this season. I've passed up too many opportunities to capture scenes like the two I posted, so I'm going to make it a point to get more (and hopefully better) shots.

I like the colors caught in the first and the mood in the second. I do all my hunting with a camera though it's probably not any less expensive!
