    Lone Plant

We spent the morning visiting the Coral Pink Sand Dunes in southern Utah. This loan plant stood out in the early morning light. Now off to a 16 day float through the Grand Canyon. No web access there.

Nice shadow! I remember this state park well, Chuck. In the right light, the sand really does take on the color of coral pink though I've seen that only in photos made by others.

I didn't know you could float the Grand Canyon for as long as 16 days without going upstream. I did the trip in 8 days in 1988 but didn't keep track of how often our guide used the motor other than when navigating falls. Despite many wonderful vacations since then, that trip is still one of my top five favorites. Have a fabulous time!

Thanks for the good wishes and the comments on the photo. I found photographing in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park very frustrating. ATV's are everywhere in the park, including the section that is set off for foot travel only. The color of the sand is beautiful, but I did not go there to photograph ATV tracks.

Mike, we are going in 17" rafts, no motors. We will average between 3 and 5 hours per day on the water. The rest of the time we will be exploring side canyons, etc. I will try to get some images to share on CIC for the Grand Canyon.

What company? Is that 17-foot rather than 17-inch rafts? Or is it 87-inch rafts?

Mike, it's the Micro Mini White Water Rafting Company. They give you a 17" raft for each foot and a PDF. Guess which one you use the most. But the good news is the trip is very inexpensive. Bottom line, I am no a very good proof reader.

I see that OARS partners with Grand Canyon Dories. When we did our trip in 1988, that company had a terrific reputation. If I remember correctly, I didn't consider them at the time because they only offered trips using wooden dories, not rafts. You'll have a fabulous trip!
