    Horse Talking

Went down to St. Jacobs this past Saturday, lots of things going on, wandered through the auction barn, and was able to shoot from the upper walkway some of the action in the barn as the horse auction was on. All of the horses for auction were for driving, some young 2 year olds which still needed some work, to some that had done it all. That was a term heard a lot, good with cars and trucks, been to town, been to school, been to church, been there, done it all. This shot is some of the bidders, checking out the stock first hand before the show ring. Interesting was all horses shown were hitched up either single or in pairs, that is unless it was a mare with a young foal which was run up and down the ring, usually by 2 handlers, each would run the horse up and down a couple of times then switch to catch their breath.

    Cheers: Allan

I agree, very nice capture. Have you thought of cropping a bit at the top. That seems to center interest on the dude with the funny beard and straw hat...

I rather like the image the way it is. The negative space/darkness provided by the cows in the livestock pens set the mood as not so festive (for them).

    Just my humble.

The guy with a beard looks like an Amish guy, don't you think? Nice shot, Allan.

Izzie, you are right. He is Amish, (beard, summer hat and suspenders). I cannot tell if his shirt has buttons or not.

The young boy off to his left is dressed Old Order.

Izzie and Marie you are both right, the St. Jacobs area near Kitchener/Waterloo in southwest Ontario have large Amish and Mennonite communities.

    Cheers: Alllan
