    A couple of water birds

I really should have checked the settings on my E-M1 when it came back from repair but wanted to go out and it takes a while to go through the menu system. When I got back I found I was shooting high compress jpg's and auto ISO. Encouraged me to never use that again. Pity as both shots really needed raw at it turns out.

    A couple of water birds

I haven't spotted out the bits floating in the water - they aren't on the sensor.

But as it turns out I managed to shoot a heron from 22m, 600mm FF equivalent so it near filled the frame. The camera, lighting and distant things in the way has some how given it a surreal sort of effect.

I had to take this through a mesh fence made of 3mm green plastic coated wire. I'm sorely tempted to start carrying wire cutters.

Nice images, by the time you're finished snipping the fence the bird'll be gone.

The Greylag goose is sweet but your heron is really cool!

Thanks. I like the heron too. I might be able to lift the blacks a bit but decided to leave them alone and just do a little mucking around with it.

Light was close to face on to it, sun getting towards being low but still plenty of light - something to remember.

The camera took some shots at 1600 ISO. 2 stage? standard noise reduction was on but nothing else. It's lost some detail and I suspect I could do better but it's not too bad as this shows. Maybe no good for wild life. Why ? well there seems to be 2 settings.

That's soic nothing done at all just reduced and not even sharpened.

    Very nice John.

Like the water drops and the reflection you captured in the first one.

I like the first two ones better than the second one which is a bit silky soft...the sharpness of the feathers, the water and the reflection makes it for the first one. The second one is just cool...I was looking for any softness but it is OK as it is..love it.
