Helpful Posts: A Dzong is a fortified monastery, and there are plenty of those around Bhutan. All those stories about warrior monks appear to be true. This one, in the town of Punakha, is one of the oldest in the country; it was built in 1637, it is considered to the most beautiful one as well.
This is a shot taken just before sunset, as the sun was disappearing over the Eastern Himalayas.

Hello Manfred: Thanks for sharing your vacation experiences. This building is indeed quite beautiful. I am always amazed at how much I learn about the world from other posters that does not even have anything to do with photography specifically. I can now amaze my friends and relatives by explaining what a "dzong" is.
