Hey Travis, you're not playing fair!
#1 is a great shot no, a TERRIBLE shot… my stomach started doing noises I never
thought it could do!
OK, my stomach has quiet down… Just as great as #1 is, the second one is not
having the same effect on/in me! The light is too harsh, the basil look strange…
in short, it is by far not the master piece #1 is…
Here goes my stomach again… not fair!
I like the first one, Travis, though I would like it even more if there were no blown highlights. The second one doesn't compare in my opinion.
Why do you always post these food shots around lunch time, Travis?
I've just come from the dentist and it will be another 2 hours or so before my mouth regains sufficient feeling to be able eat, and I am sitting staring at the first photo thinking, if Travis leaves out the potato, white wine and marsala, he has a great salad dish - the kind I usually make.
I think there is too much going on in the 2nd shot. I'm not sure if the subject is the tomatoes or the plate of soup. Rather than an overhead shot I would prefer to see it framed close and low from the side, perhaps with a single leaf and tomato in the background. But the first shot is a winner for me.
First shot with me too, Travis...looks can be deceiving and I usually do not like to include tomatoes too much in my diet but they are great photographically. The second one...no comment.
I find myself looking at this post multiple times. Yum! It really does make me salivate. Yum! That tells me that you have achieved what is most difficult to do which is to bring out a primal reaction in the viewer. Yum! The moisture of all the ingredients in the first image is particularly nice but also contributes to the highlights. Perhaps a reflector of some sort have been able to minimize the effect. Did I say Yum?
Nice captures.
