    Afternoon at the Lake

I took these shots yesterday at the UQ lake. I was looking to do something with the late afternoon light. I was happy enough with them but I do have my rose coloured glasses on. I would therefore appreciate hearing your thoughts on these - good, bad or indifferent.

Dave...nice shots...I like #1 for its clarity and sharpness...a bit less water please at the bottom because the bridge seems to be too centred...but then that is just me...#2 I like for the light showing through -- I have this secret ambition to catch the same in my backyard amongst our old trees there in the yawning. I enjoy that scene just as I like this one of yours too. #3 is my favourite of all these three -- there always seems to be a mystery about couple walking or going in the distance for me -- like a continuation of life ahead for them...

And oh, there is this light in one of the post in the bridge -- on the right side -- the face of a stick man... see that??? love it.

Thanks for your comments Izzie. Now that you mention it, I think you are right about cropping #1. I've shown a new version below with the same aspect ratio (3:2) but with water cropped off the bottom and trees cropped off the right. I think it looks better.

As for the stick man in #3, only you could see that

    Thanks again
    Dave

These are nice and I do prefer the second version of #1. It's interesting that you have chosen the more intimate scenes in the area. The second is the only one I remember in detail. I think that is a ghost of someone I know clinging to the post on the bridge.

The colours are good and you chose a good time of day.

Thanks Tony and John. Tony I normally shoot fairly wide but on this occasion I was shooting more tightly to try and get something interesting. I think the ghost you refer to is Izzie's stick man (see above).

Tony must be referring to the light on the boardwalk or the other guy on the left post with the shining eyes...OK...so I have a fertile imagination...I'll go away now...

Nice shots, I find the composition interesting with leaves covering the surface of the water in #2

That first shot takes me back to conference days at UQ, Dave. The 2nd version is definitely better, although all three remind of the kind of photos the institutions use to advertise themselves. I love the light in the 2nd one.

Thanks for commenting Greg. When I visit, it takes me back to my student days there many moons ago. In those days, the aesthetics of the place were secondary for me though, with other things on my mind !
