A really DUMB question, what is on where, where do you look

Where do members look to find out what is on

I am sure there are many who want to shoot but have NO idea where to look to see what is on, I do NOT mean the local newspaper showing the local boring school fete, but "proper events"

    Thanks

It depends on what you mean by proper events?

I like to do big events and know about them from radio, Twitter, Facebook advertisements.

I also am subscribed to the "What's on" websites of my city, as well as the theaters, promoters and agents of artists.

For wildlife, obviously I go to game reserves or nature reserves. I also belong to a group in my city who go out on specific photoshoots - not that I often go with them, but I know then where to go and find interesting places.

Hope this is what you have in mind.

I am very lucky in that there is a plethora of interesting photo venues here in the San Diego California area... The city has a website that lists all of the permits issued for events which is a great place to start looking. I also belong to several very informal camera organizations which are able to ferret out interesting events...

I could shoot something different and interesting every week; 52-weeks a year, if I had the time and energy...

San Diego is a great place. I used to live there in the late '90s. Always something to do and places to go...

I just use our local paper and the Yorkshire Post plus there is a site for agricultural shows which can be great sources - no good to you in Deven but you must have similar.

    Jeremy,

Having read a couple of your comments where you mention that you rarely comment on others images because you find most of them 'boring' it may be an idea to mention what type of event you are looking for to find shooting opportunities that you do not find boring.

What do you class as "proper events"?

    Jeremy,

You might want to indicate why you are asking the question posed in your first post. As an example, you now seem to be implying that responses that pertain to localities other than yours aren't applicable. So, is it that you want advice about websites that you could use to find events that are local to you, that you want to know what websites people use because you shoot professionally and want to know what websites other people are using, or perhaps something else? Once everyone understands the purpose of your question, people will probably be able to provide more helpful responses.

Generally speaking, in the USA when one wants to know "what is on", we refer to the TV schedule

One of those interesting cultural nuances within a (technically) common language.
