I disturbed this little chap whilst picking up leaves in the garden earlier this morning. After having his portrait taken he was returned to where he was found, to carry on helping me with garden pests.

Hi Peter,

Yesterday, I had a class with the local photo club. One of the major point
I stressed was: BE READY AT ALL TIMES!

Just as much as your subject will require ƒ stop selection or SS tweak,
the light conditions, nevertheless, MUST BE YOUR FIRST PREOCUPATION!

The only way to go through any eventual scene and shoot fast is to BE
READY AT ALL TIMES! This tip come from the film days where one had
to pick ahead the proper emulsion for the shooting conditions.

The first thing I do when getting out is to set an ISO that will allow any of
my usual shooting strategies. Had you done the same thing, your frog and
the entire scene would have been sharper!

—"Aperture priority AE, 1/30 sec, f/4, ISO 100!— is not rendering the best
of takes. All 3 settings are wrong! A better setup could read like this:
—"Aperture priority AE, 1/60 sec, f/11, ISO 3200!—
where 1/60s would be enough for a static subject!

The camera you are using is very capable to work comfortably with this setup.
