    The Rose

For three years I have been trying to get this red rose look like a rose and not a mixed chunck of a red blot on a screen.

    Shot on 13 October 2014 at 07h45.
Nikon D200, Manual WB, 1/30, f14, ISO 125. Shot in Fine Jpeg and minimal PP in ACDSee.

So I take it all others from the past three years have been deleted? Would have been nice to see your progression over the years. Nicely captured.

Nope, I do not delete them, I keep them to see if there is any progress. Difference is I don't wet them now, the rain has to do that.
What is interesting is to see how the shot changes by shooting during different hours of the day.
Shooting from the side of the flower presents less of a challenge than shooting straight into it.

    Thanks John, I am trying.

It looks good to me too, it might be better to shoot one without yellow petals next time

Andre, I suffer from lack of vision in all things photography and because of that, more of my work,
of late, has been shooting tethered. I know that your screen image is nothing more than a blown-up
image of what's on your viewfinder but, seeing it on my monitor is a huge benefit.

I open the tethered shoot, arrange the subject, then play with the lighting, attempting to get an adequate
shot which, for me, would have been impossible any other way.

Andre, you have certainly captured the reds ok but I find the harsh shadows uncomplimentary. Perhaps getting up a bit earlier with less harsh light may be worth a try.

That little screen on the back gets to small as you get older.

    Thanks Grahame,

You mean like shooting before sunrise - it is to dark that time of the morning.
It works better on a cloudy day. But getting the time right with cloud and doing it before work - it is a little difficult. But I will use a screen and do it all again.
