    Tug and Tow

Sailing into the sunrise on the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The dark areas are rather noisy preventing me from raising the shadows much more. C&C always appreciated.

Thank you for the comments! There was indeed a mist illuminated by the sun that I was thrilled to be present for. When the tug approached I was just beside myself with apprehension at possibly screwing the shot up. I was fortunate to be able to keep the sun obscured but capture the glow of the mist and still be able to get some detail in the darker areas. I'm beginning to appreciate how useful a graduated neutral density filter may prove to be.

I was just about to say that it needed a GND when I first saw it...it will certainly emphasized the beauty of the skies...

Great perspective, Andrew. It was good timing to get the peaks all lined up. I don't think you need to raise the shadows anymore.

Plus 1 for the ripples, viewpoint and lighting. Add to that catching the bridge up to accentuate all that is in front of the tug is another plus. Well done Andrew!

Very nice scene, well captured, Andrew. The shadows work as is for me and I wouldn't change a thing

This is a great combination of luck (right time, right place, right conditions) and execution.

I would suggest that you look to your editor rather than a GradND as I suspect as you played and got it out and so on the boat would be long gone. Even what you have presented to us here can be adjusted becuase the information is there to be used.
Will not show you what I did as I am not happy wwith the transition between the flat water and ripples but I'm sure with more time and effort it could be made to work. The change along the tree tops is another area where great care or a mask would be the answer.
I would make the effort if it was my shot ... worth it

Edit ... had an idea afterwards and picked up the wrm colour of the flat water and painted it with a weak brush over thee ripples and it solved that problem .... but didn't solve the treeline so I will delete it

Like the composition and agree the water ripples add a lot The mist is coming across very well, not sure a ND would help to much as it needs a little burning to the right, easily done in Lightroom, or adjustment layer in PS (not my best area).
Agree its certainly worth some work as a cracking shot.
