Re: Don't mess with me
Thanks guys
@ Jeremy - no one has got upset with me yet - I was probably 1/5 m away from her for a while and she didn't seem to notice or care. I used the effective "what's gone wrong with my camera, let's look at the top plate LCD and twiddle a few settings" routine to get in close and not be noticed. Works a treat at close quarters.

Nice capture Phil, though she is not a great advert for the tailors

Re: Don't mess with me
Just love your work. I find shooting people rather intimidating and admire your ability to see the shots and do such a masterful job of taking them!

Re: Don't mess with me
Thanks guys.
Thanks for your kind words, Andrew. You should just try it. This particular lady wasn't armed with a handbag so I considered myself reasonably safe. In busy spots the majority of people are too busy in their own world to notice. If there's something interesting about the person/scene and you are noticed or confronted then it's best to just calmly explain who you are and what you do, say something like "I really like what you're wearing/you in the scene" and ask if they mind having a photograph taken. I have only asked for permission once in London so far and got a positive response, and in Dubai got a positive response around 80% of the time.
I used to hate having people in my shots, but eventually used them to anchor a scene or provide scale, and then tried getting up close and personal with environmental portraits and candids. Highly recommended, even if only to get you out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

I'm waiting for someone to post "that's no lady, that's my wife!"
