I never get the chance to be in the landscape “Golden Hours”!

It is said that outside of these hours you might as well go have lunch and not shoot!

I disagree. I say bring your lunch and shoot while everybody else is out to lunch!

This cloud phenomenon thingy lasted about one hour in the worst time of day.

Had I been out to lunch I would have missed it.

I am thrilled to have seen this and had a camera with me.

In case anyone is wondering? I had a ham & cheese sandwich!

That is a myth spread by the pros to keep the amateurs away.

I am with you about the Golden Hour thingie. I did it once and never again...it is hard to recover sleep at that time of the day...it is either too early or too late in the day I won't be able to have a proper sleep at night.

Anywho...this is a splendid shot! Very nice place to linger with your sandwich though I might say, I'd my chicken salad samwich anytime...

That's another nice capture Terry. There seems (on my monitor?) to be a blue cast similar to your sand dunes image though. Are you using a UV on the lens? Backing off the blue saturation channel seems to give a more natural rendition (only IMHO of course):

I wonder if I’m suffering from saturation sickness. I might seem to be leaning more toward a little more saturation for some reason. White balance is one of the first things I do and the shot is pretty close to correct. Sure something for me to think about.

Terry, I don't know from where you took the shot as that range encompasses an area from southern Colorado into New Mexico. If ya catch the light in the right place, the peaks turn red. Gorgeous!

Terry, it may be something as simple as not using a UV filter (UV filters and lens protection filters are not the same thing). Mountainscapes and seascapes are particularly prone to UV and some compensation is generally needed.

No. Just develop your eye to 'see' in B & W and the opportunities are limitless. High, harsh sunlight can very often give great B & W options because you get strong shadows, bold lines and shapes and high contrast.

I agree this is a fine shot, and that any time of day can work. There are a lot of "rules" in photography that should be regarded as "suggestions."

Terry, this is a b̶e̶a̶u̶t̶i̶f̶u̶l̶ gorgeous shot. I do agree with John (2) about the blue saturation, his edit does seem to be a bit more natural but, it's up to you how you see (or saw) it.
One suggestion, maybe consider cloning out the plant(s) in the lower RHS. In my mind it opens up that lower RHS corner and makes a cleaner, flowing image. Just my thoughts...

Thanks for the great tip John. I didn’t know that about the mountains and seascapes since it is so rare that I get to shoot any. I’ll sure keep that in mind.

Chauncy this is outside Alamosa, CO and I believe the tall one is Blanco Peak if I’m not mistaken.

Donald, Tom well said. For me if it’s a choice of shooting or going to lunch, I’ll shoot I don’t care what time of day! Seems that there is always something of interest no matter the time. One just has to look for it.

Jack I am taking Johns advice on board and have edited the image based on that. And I consider myself lucky that he stopped by and advised me. I have also done a version taking your advice and I like it. Not the easiest clone job since it is a fairly big area and not a lot to sample from in the vicinity but certainly doable. I have to be a little fussy on this one. I’m thinking about maybe a go-big-or-go-home canvas with this one. I like to do one every vacation I go on (if I’m lucky enough to get something good)! Thank you sir for your thoughts. I consider myself lucky you made them known to me. I appreciate it from you guys and this is why I bring my shots here so you all can tell me what I am not seeing.

And Mike? I don’t always have mustard on my H&C Sammy. But when I do I have good ole fashion, no frills yellow mustard! French’s if I can get it!
