    Black-shouldered Kite

These birds of prey visit our local area in early spring and they do not like to be photographed! They have distinctive red eyes and, as the name suggests, black shoulders. I have caught one of them in flight only once; although it is a poor shot, you can see that she has her prey still in her talons after catching it only moments before. I hope to get another opportunity to capture one of these marvellous birds with her prey again.

Nice shots, Chris. I have never seen one before. What part of the country are you in?

Thanks, Grahame. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Yep, the eyes look like they could glow in the dark!

    Thanks for looking, Dan.

I visited your site - wow!! Absolutely beautiful images!

I always enjoy seeing photographs that are much better than my own, they give me a goal to aim for and, hopefully attain.

Without the skill and attention to detail that photographers like you employ, how would the the rest of us know what can be achieved?

    Many thanks.

Ah, Wollongong. Years ago, our family had a 'weekender' at Culburra Beach that we would visit in the holidays (we lived in Sydney then), we would stop at Wollongong and sometimes Nowra to pick up supplies. The scenery in the Shoalhaven area was always beautiful.

Haven't been down that way since. Perhaps the distance between us will make it difficult to meet-up, although I would love to visit again sometime.
