Re: Tripod Recommendations
It matters less what tripod you buy but rather how you use it ... understanding its limitations for the gear you use and the subjects being shot. My cheap and versatile tripod is a mini-tripod, Slick 8555. It cost me about NZ$35. To overcome one problem ... cannot hold camera in landscape mode when held against tree or building I added the right angle bracket out of strip aluminium. As it is definitely on the unsteady side I always use the 10 second delay holding the tripod firmly and leaving the camera to settle down after pressing the trigger. Some people foolishly hang onto the camera all the time and wonder why they have unsatisfactory results LOL
After spending a bit over US$100 on a modern Slick tripod for my son I would would expect anything under US$150 to be rubbish ... we dumped the ballhead and bought another which works reasonably well [ sorry I forget the make but it was one menioned here at the time sept 2012]
EDIT .. further point .. a tripod is usually steady but a pole on the top of a tripod is NOT and the other mistake people make is to use the tripod with column wound up. Best trripods , and expensive, do not have a column.
