Nicely captured, you could have played a bit with some blur.

They certainly have colourful uniforms, Matt. I think the first shot works better than the 2nd and I am trying to understand why. I think the first is more powerful because the central figure is located amongst all the vertical lines - the guardhouse, the corners of the building, the gate - which dominate the frame. Whereas, in the 2nd shot the strength of those verticals is compromised somewhat by the diagonal lines of the paving.

I like #1 best...very colourful uniform. I thought at first this is selective colouring. Is this shot at the Vatican? Just asking...

A couple of nice images Matt, all the more so because of the contrast between the colour of the uniform and the almost mono surround. My only suggestion is that the blank wall on the left of the sentry box in the first isn't adding anything and cropping the comp to just slightly short of the box for me at least, provides a better balance to the image.

Maybe a fraction of extra brightness on the highlights to give a bit of a 'boost' to the scene?

Or try LCE etc to give a similar effect.

And, yes, maybe try some different crops; possibly 5 x 4 ratio?
