Hall of Statues (B&W)

Interesting scene. I wonder if it might take a fraction more highlight brightness to create a more dramatic effect? But I don't really have any serious problems with this version.

This is very typical of the Vatican Museum. Just full of extraordinarily detailed statues everywhere you look. Very nicely composed but not quite pin sharp Matt and IMHO, the shadows could be lifted a little. Because it's hand held I guess?

IMO this version is much better Matt In the first image the corridor and the ceiling were competing with the statues a bit.The statues are more dominant in #2.

The second edit has a lot more wow factor. Looking good now.

I like the composition and can't imagine how you found a moment when there were no people in the hallway. Ironically, perhaps it would have been helpful to include one or two people viewing the sculptures.

Consider altering the first image to brighten it a bit though without increasing the contrast. Notice that the histogram also indicates that a bit more exposure could be in order.

Also consider cropping on the right to eliminate the partition going across the hallway. Doing so doesn't necessarily improve the image; instead, it changes the story being told.

The second version is less appealing to me because of the emphasis of the shadows on the wall that detract from the sculptures.

I much prefer the first image. In the second image the shadows are too dominant. A colour image would be rather tame - I think.

Mike this corridor was actually shut off from the public on this particular day. I will have a go at some of your suggestions and see how it turns out.
