Autumn's Moods
For C&C.
Do you like these?
Do they convey a mood? Do they tell a story?

Re: Autumn's Moods
Marie,
I really like #1, classic example of fall, and a textbook definition of 'a lowering sky.' I like too how the clouds kind of mirror foreground/background hills. Clearly it's not possible but had it been, a better shot would have been without that cluster of branches in center foreground. But to your point, #1 does certainly convey Autumn.
As for #2, very typically country/autumnal. Colors are great as is the moisture on the pumpkins and bench. I do like the tractor path disappearing in the background, it gives the image depth as well as context.
What I don't like about both shots are that they are autumnal and that clearly means winter nigh approaches; I can easily do without winter (but then, spring and summer would mean so much less, so I guess I have to suck it up and deal with another winter.)
Great shots both.

Re: Autumn's Moods
Version 2 of the first image is much better Marie but I really like the pumpkin. That OOF bit of road makes the difference - taking your eye through the comp.

Re: Autumn's Moods
Marie,
Exactly! Removing that little bit opens up the scene and just draws the eye right into the scenery. You should be proud to hang that one on your wall. Now maybe three more seasons from the same spot...

Re: Autumn's Moods
Thanks, Matt for your input.
Thanks, too, John and Vaez, and Binnur, too.
Just FYI, Jack, what you call a "tractor path" is our driveway, lols. It is 3/10ths of a mile long - all downhill. In the winter, we call it the "slalom".

Re: Autumn's Moods
I like the treatment done to the lower half of the first (cloud area has what appears to be banding) and the overall treatment to the second.

Re: Autumn's Moods
Yes Marie, they both say fall. I like the pumpkin image very much. Simple and well done. IMO you could crop the first image to 4x5 (portrait) format removing removing all of the crop from the top. Glad you're still enjoying your fall. We've got six inches of snow in the yard...

Re: Autumn's Moods
Hey, Dan!!!! Is this the first real snowfall for you?
I have a feeling it will be a long winter for us (but certainly not like what you must experience!).
thank you for the suggestion of the crop, but I am not sure exactly where you mean. Please feel free to edit my image?

Re: Autumn's Moods
They both do tell a story, #1 edit is much better, consider taking a little crop from the top too, to focus on the drama in the sky.
#2 is a nice warm shot, but still depicting your fall, like the wet, makes the shot I think and the drive makes the composition.

Re: Autumn's Moods
Marie...thanks for posting again...I hope you are truly well by now...or slowly getting into the hang of things again. I enjoyed looking at your pumpkin...I've missed another beautiful day again for shooting today because both my cameras were configured to butterfly and orchid shooting so I did not go. 'Must get those pumpkin shots before November rolls in...LOL
...Love your pumpkin. and yes the second edit is much more better for #1...
Get well, Rie...and take care...

Re: Autumn's Moods
John,
Please feel free to edit my image. I learn better by example.
Dear Izzie, thank you so much for asking!
I ended up back in the hospital last week for the second time and was discharged this past Saturday.
My kidney values had crept up again. The renal specialist has changed my medication lineup again drastically, so we can only wait to see. I see my general practicioner next week, but I probably will not be returning to work until the first week of November.
The past month has been quite a wild ride.
Regards,
'Rie

Re: Autumn's Moods
Hi Marie,
I'm brand new here, this is the first thread I've jumped into and to my pleasant surprise, I see these two beautiful images. Both are stunning and like several here, I like the edited version of number 1. It does open up the hill and draws you in. Excellent job.
Hope your feeling better ...
