    Eclipse

A quick edit of the eclipse, even though I had minutes available to setup the shot I almost missed it as the sun was so bright you couldn't see the moon.

Great shot. I missed it entirely.

In the lightbox I see lots of banding.

Nice shot, John. Thanks for sharing.

Just out of curiosity, what's the tower in the foreground?

Cool scene. I assume this was the moon while in eclipse? There isn't much detail in the moon there, but I guess during an eclipse is might not look entirely ordinary, plus, getting detail in the moon without over under exposing other things is not very doable with one shot anyway. I missed the real thing.

I like the composition and colours, John. What sort of filter did you use?

    Hi Bobo,

Thanks for the comments and critique. I did a few bracketed shots that hopefully will eliminate the banding. Will post as soon as processed.

    Nick,

Thanks for the comments, yes the small disk is the moon eclipsing the sun, as I said I could barely see the moon as the sun was extraordinarily bright.

I was looking at a Thousand Oaks filter online and knew it was too late for me to have it so I didn't even try...Then I met someone and talked about the solar eclipse yesterday and he told me that he only used his sunglasses to cover his lens! Just don't look at the sun directly because the camera do not have an iris, my eyes does. I told him that I intend to use my laptop to view the eclipse and he said it is a good idea since I can tether my camera to it.

Anyway...this is a beautiful shot. I still have to do one...I am so jealous...

    Hi Izzie,

Thanks for the comments, I used LiveView to focus and a cpl filter and it worked just fine. I was concerned because the sun was very intense, I couldn't even see the eclipse until I reviewed a few shots.

Nice composition, John. The banding that Bobo mentioned is evident even in the small size. Why did you use a polarizer?

Not many elements in your picture which makes it such a great one.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the comments. I wanted to control the incoming light and the only other filter I had was an ND8, I felt it would underexpose other areas of the image.
