Grandma and her Bridesmaids plus the flower girl

    Hi Guys,

I've started color calibrating my monitor with the Spyder Pro 4 and since I've been coloring a lot of my grandparents old photos, I figured I'd ask you guys if this photo looks ok? Let me know if you have a calibrated screen in your answer so I can figure whether or not your opinion matters lol. Thanks for looking!

    Thanks,
    Zak

27" iMac calibrated monthly with Spider Pro 4. The five ladies cheeks all have pink splotches, could be rouge I guess but look unnatural to me. Also all their teeth are black. All else looks fine to me.

Zak...this is a response from the feminine perspective...

First, I also use a calibrated monitor and for the most part the colors look fine to me. I agree with Paul's comments and will add that the pearls on three of the bridesmaids need to be whiter.

Next I am taking on the role of the fashion police. Is there a reason that two of the bridesmaids or wearing purple and the others are in pink. Maybe you know this to be a fact from family lore, but the dresses appear to be the same and I would think they would have been the same color although I can live with them being different. What I am having a harder time accepting is the different color on the lace sleeves, collar and hat of the bridesmaid on the left.

Overall I am impressed with the result and can only imagine the time and effort that you have put into this project. When I ponder this and the other images you have colored I can't help but think how the process must make you feel closer to your ancestors.

Why didn't I see any of that?

Because you are not a woman, Donald, nor did you likely ever serve as a bridesmaid or participate in the often overwhelming process of picking dresses for a wedding party

The black teeth might be a bit of an exaggeration to my eye but I think that, like the pearls, they could be brightened up a bit.

    Shane,

Interesting observation on the dresses, if they truly are this color do you think the males caught flack for not recognizing the difference?

    Zak,

Nice effort, I've seen some photos straight from the photo album that looked exactly like this.

    Zak,

I'm viewing these on a non calibrated monitor and apart from lightening the teeth a bit, and addressing the pinkish tone of the cheeks the colours look ok to me.

As for the difference in colours of dresses and sleeves I would not dream of commenting on something so ridiculously beyond the observational skills of a mere male

Thanks for your critiques. I'm terrible at figuring out the makeup still, so I'll just keep practicing lol. The dresses were drastically different shades so I assumed they were different colors. Thanks for your help!

Well, as a mere female, I couldn't tell the difference of many vintage cars so I hope that makes us even

Interesting about the shades and seems like it is probably a good analysis of the black and white image on your part Zak.

Well, as a mere male, the teeth are black, the colours of the dresses are fine. But then I'm a mere male

Me also. However, I don't know how much rouge would typically have been used at the time.

    Profiled and calibrated monitor.
