Re: The Beautiful City of Venice Set
You have a wide range of light levels in these scenes, Matt; so I wonder if keeping the highlights under control has left you with slightly dark midtones in some cases? The shadows need to remain dark though.

Re: The Beautiful City of Venice Set
I loved them all Matt I like the strong colors. There are some dark midtones as Geoff mentioned above but I think they go well with the images (At least they are to my taste ).#1 and #4 look like paintings with your edits.

Thanks for commenting guys
With the light, these photos were taken throughout a whole day. Venice is full of narrow alleys and tall buildings which block out the light then all of a sudden it opens out into a mass body of water and sky! Magical place, I didn't get to see it at night but plan to go back in the future.

Good set, Matt, together they give a good feel for the city. Pity about the blown highlight in #5.
The last two are my favourites. Your processing of #7 has brought out the grittiness of the place, and #8 the earthiness of it.

I like strong colours too, Matt -- and I like all of them...just need a bit of story in between the shots so we can follow your travels with your shots...I like #4 a lot and the last two of them...need I ask for you to number your shots so that it is easier to take note of?

I also do not mind the pushed colours but it may be worth toning down the unnatural blue in the sky of No 1 a bit.
It was many years ago that I was in Venice and do not recall carrying a camera with me in those days.

Re: The Beautiful City of Venice Set
really nice, cant give advice as not qualified in PP to any level but they really re-create a longing to go there so as far as images go they hit the spot to create a wish in this member of the audience to go and see what you saw !

I really like the compositions even though the post-processing of the color images is not to my taste. It's interesting to me that you don't use a similar post-processing style with the monochrome images.
I wonder if you have a close-up of the gondolier in #3.
I agree with you about the appeal of Venice. I generally avoid cities when traveling but Istanbul and Venice are my two exceptions. Venice is definitely my favorite and I would never hesitate to make a third trip there if I plan to be nearby.

Re: The Beautiful City of Venice Set
Thanks for viewing Mike.
I just prefer monochrome images as natural as possible, I'm not sure why. It might be me sub consciously thinking they are an old fashioned look. I don't really know.
I will have a look for that close-up, I'm sure I did... I took so many photos.
I've never been to Istanbul, maybe thats where I will visit next

I really like the PP work you have done here, Matt.
Yes, some of the images are a bit "over the top", but on the other hand, so is Venice. It is a place that has been photographed so many times that pushing the envelope a bit really helps put things into a new perspective. I find your interpretations refreshing and it really does bring back some pleasant memories of our visit there a couple of years ago.
