I agree with Frank Miller regarding the Canon SX-40. For the lack of "real" photographic opportunities (predicated on only being able to shoot from about 10AM or so to 4PM or so), I would suggest that a light weight bridge camera would be a good choice. I would, if forced to take another cruise (which is about as likely as me growing a second head), bring a camera of the SX-40. SX-50 or SX-60 ilk.

BTW: there is a software fix which will enable the SX-40 to shoot RAW.

The SX-50 is certainly a cost effective travel camera with U.S pricing around $400 USD or so. The SX 60 HS is a bit more costly at about $600 USD.

Actually the SX group of cameras give enormous telephoto range as well as quite decent wide angle for a relatively inexpensive price.

    Re: What gear for cruise

This is always my topic when i travel, but i feel every year i increase my gear list then it is very difficult to pick something to carry and leave the rest.

Until next year if i will travel, i may have something little more than what i already have, and to me, weight is not a problem, but it is about if i am very serious of my photography and i need to use my best gear i have then i have to think carefully what to carry for what purpose, some lenses are let's say just repeated [redundant], but each lens has its own pros and cons, one lens may serve me in a condition when another lens can't, even if both are with the same FL.
